Birding Field Trips

From April 26 through May 12, we will do Tuesday and Thursday bird walks at the Myrick Marsh and Hixon Forest at 6:30 AM. The Tuesday walks will be at the Myrick Marsh (meet at base of trail by Myrick Park Center parking lot) and the Thursday walks will be held in the Hixon Forest (meet at parking lot at end of Milson Court). These walks will end around 8:00 am and are open to all and free. On Saturday, May 7th, there will be two bird walks at Myrick Marsh as part of the World Migratory Bird Day event. The start times will be 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM. Both are free and open to the public. The second will be more family focused but kids of all ages are welcome for both. On Saturday, May 14th, we will have a Wyalusing State Park field trip. We meet at 6:00 AM on the entrance road to the park between the highway and the gate house. Look for the cars. This trip is very special since there are many species found at the park that are tought to find elsewhere in Wisconsin. There will also be bird hikes on May 7th in Ferryville that are hosted by the Mississippi Valley Conservancy (see their website for information) and as part of the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge's World Migratory Bird Day event on May 14th. Dan Jackson will lead a field trip at the Wyalusing State Park on Sunday, May 14th from 6:00 AM until about 11:30 AM. This trip is free and open to the public. We meet on the entrance road before the gate house and then bird throughout the park by car caravan. Car pooling is encouraged and we will stop at the gate house parking lot to let people buy park passes and consolidate. This is the most exciting field trip of the season with lots of park specialties. This year's date should be very close to the peak of the warbler migration.

Myrick and Hixon Forest Bird Walks - April 25 - May 11, 2023

The Myrick and Hixon Forest bird walks will be held on Tuesday (Myrick) and Thursday (Hixon) mornings from April 25 - May 11, 2023. The walks start at 6:30 AM and go until about 8:30. The Myrick walks will start from the base of the Rabbit trail near the Myrick Park Center and the Hixon walks start from the parking lot at the end of Milson Court. Due to severe flooding, it is likely that we will not be able to walk the marsh trails for the Myrick walks (at least for the first 2 weeks). We will adjust if needed by walking along the edge of the marsh and heading into the Oak Grove Cemetery (just west of Myrick Park). These walks are free and open to the public and will be led by Dan Jackson and Pat & Bobbie Wilson.
